June 7, 2012 - 40 Years of Royal Oak – an Exhibition Featuring 40 Exclusive Royal Oak Watches at Taipei 101 Mall

In 2012, AUDEMARS PIGUET Taiwan presents a special exhibition in celebration of the 40^th anniversary of the Royal Oak collection in June 8-12 at the plaza on the fourth floor of Taipei 101 Mall.  There is a special theme creation of a Royal Oak watch that is magnified 155 times from the original one. The featured watch which has taken six months to complete at the cost of 5 million NT dollars is the largest Royal Oak watch in the world.

Featuring World’s Largest 6-meter Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Watch at Taipei 101 Mall

In line with the theme on the 40^th anniversary of the Royal Oak, an iconic watch by AUDEMARS PIGUET, the exhibition features 40 exclusive timepieces from the collection, including first coming 2012 novelties: Royal Oak Ultra-thin 39mm, Royal Oak 41mm Selfwinding, Royal Oak 37mm Selfwinding, Royal Oak 33mm Quartz, Royal Oak 41mm Chronograph, and Royal Oak Offshore Diver in forged carbon. Among the 40 watches with total value of nearly 50 million NT dollars, the most exclusive timepiece is the Royal Oak Skeleton Perpetual Calendar with case and bracelet in pink gold and retail price of 4,063,000 NT dollars.

40 Years of Royal Oak - A Dance of Lights and Shadows in Grandeur

The venue for the unique exhibition is located at Taipei 101 Mall, a special landmark to underscore AUDEMARS PIGUET’s mastery, artistry, and leadership status. Upon entrance to the plaza on the fourth floor, the world’s largest Royal Oak with diameter of 6 meters greets the guests with the signature octagonal bezel, hexagonal screws, stainless steel case. Through the changes of play on the LED screen, guests can appreciate all the facets of an iconic Royal Oak watch.  An exclusive AUDEMARS PIGUET corporate film will also be broadcasted on the screen every 15 minutes.

On the fourth floor of Taipei 101 Mall, tall screens of glass reflect natural lights, interplaying with the hi-tech lightings reflected from the Royal Oak case. On the side, images of the sceneries from the valley of Le Brassus where the Swiss Watch Manufacture original from greet the visitors. A large octagonal display case showcases the grandeur of Royal Oak watches in the magnificent ambiance. The LED screens on the wall plays several movies of how the Royal Oak watches are produced, including the designing, manufacturing of the octagonal bezels, the making and assembling of the cases, the creation of bracelets and the assembling of a grand complications. These revealing footages unveil the secrets behind these iconic timepieces.

Celebrity Leroy Yang presents personal debut in vocal performance in honor of Royal Oak

To celebrate the ephemeral presence of Royal Oak, renowned actor Leroy Yang is the special guest who performs his very first vocal performance, taking us back to the year 1972.  Mr. Richard Weng, C.E.O. of AUDEMARS PIGUET Taiwan, recalls that 40 years ago during a more conservative era, the launch of Royal Oak was also a bold and innovative challenge to the market. As the first prestigious waterproof sports watch made from stainless steel, equipped with the world’s thinnest selfwinding movement, first to expose the screws on the bezel, and the first to expand its diameter to 39mm, Royal Oak’s audacity and originality make it a favorite by watch connoisseurs even today. It has remained a benchmark for world high-end sports watches.

As Leroy Yang performs a classic score “Lean on me” that was released in 1972, the same year Royal Oak was launched, supermodel Ashley Wang who is dressed in goddess attire elegantly walks onto the large octagonal bezel for a special interpretation of the Royal Oak 37mm Selfwinding Watch. The duo’s elegant performance echoes yet another unique feature of the bracelet of the watch – all the elements of various sizes are fused into a design that is a perfect fit on the wrist!

As the finale, Mr. Richard Weng, C.E.O. of AUDEMARS PIGUET Taiwan, along with special guests Leroy Yang and Ashley Wang, count down together to activate the world’s largest Royal Oak watch. The large case turns into the faces of different versions of Royal Oak watches. The special guests will also raise their champagne glasses to cheer for the formal opening of the “Royal Oak 40^th Anniversary” exhibition.
