BaselWorld 2014 - Lang & Heyne
This year Marco Lang of Lang & Heyne showed his new complication the Augustus which calculates the age of people who are important for you. This watch is programmed with the names and dates of the those people when it is manufactured . Then you always have this information as well as their age with you when you travel. As each watch will be made to order each owner can have their watch programmed as they wish. Of course the entire calculation is completely mechanical, so the programming is not trivial.
The complication is invisible under the dial which leaves the bridge side free for the exceptional decoration for which Marco Lang's watches are known.
Marco also showed his Moritz of Sachsen perpetual calendar with moon phase and declination angle to the sun.
Note that Marco's watch always runs perfectly.
Marco Lang's big news, however is his collaboration with
Leinfelder in Munich to whom he is providing new "reasonable cost"
movements. As we can see, the movement exists in prototypes and
production is being built up in Dresden at this time.
I really like
the architecture of this movement with a separate cock for each wheel
and the simple but effective brushed decoration. But if it can really
be made in quantities at a reasonable price with all those parts remains
to be seen. (As we can see each cock has 2 pins and 1 screw that need
to be made and assembled. A multi-cock movement has a lot of parts and
assembly work.)
The gold watch from Leinfelder is a very
conservative but pleasant design, the colored ones, well lets say there
is much room for improvement.
I wish them much luck in this venture.
