Baselworld 2015 : Overview of OMEGA 2015 Collections

1) The light coral-coloured dial of the new Constellation Pluma recalls the halcyon days of summer

Following its launch in 2014, an evocative Constellation Pluma has been unveiled with a newly designed mother-of-pearl dial.

The Constellation family has long been admired for its elegant yet understated design and is distinguished by the state-of-the-industry timepieces that combine innovation with style. Last year, OMEGA unveiled its collection of Constellation Pluma timepieces characterised by the unique design engraved on their mother-of-pearl dials. These sophisticated watches take their name from the Latin word for feather, subtly hinting at the delicate design that accentuates its most striking element.

This year, OMEGA has unveiled an evocative interpretation of the Constellation Pluma with a light coral-coloured dial that is reminiscent of the warm sunshine on a summer day. Similar to its sisters, this 27 mm timepiece is decorated with 11 diamond indexes in 18K gold holders and a soft-wavy pattern that flows between the iconic claws on the bezel. Its polished and facetted central hour, minute and seconds hands are crafted from 18K gold and coated with white Super-LumiNova, so the time can be read in a variety of lighting conditions.

The 18K red gold bezel of this ladies’ wristwatch is paved with 32 full-cut diamonds, adding to the overall style of this piece. This Constellation Pluma is presented on a bracelet with brushed stainless steel links and polished 18K red gold bars. The OMEGA Co-Axial calibre 8520 at its heart is visible through a domed scratch-resistant caseback and the precision and reliability of this mechanical movement is such that the timepiece is offered with a full four-year warranty.

2) The OMEGA Seamaster family welcomes a new limited edition model inspired by the world of James Bond

In anticipation of SPECTRE the 24th James Bond film scheduled to release in 2015, OMEGA has created a limited edition Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M model inspired by the Bond family coat of arms.

The symbol is repeatedly interlocked to create a dynamic pattern on the watch’s blue dial. The coat of arms is also found near the tip of the yellow central seconds hand.

Among the most striking elements of this 41.5 mm stainless steel timepiece is the oscillating weight of the movement visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. This component has been cut and shaped to resemble a gun barrel, a design feature associated with James Bond.

Powered by the completely new OMEGA Master Co-Axial calibre 8507, this timepiece is resistant to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss.

The timepiece is presented on a stainless steel bracelet and will be produced in an edition limited to 15,007 pieces. It is delivered with a full four-year warranty.

3) Marking the 45th anniversary of NASA’s “successful failure”

An iconic timepiece redesigned with help from Snoopy

On April 17, 1970, the world watched as the Apollo 13 Command Module landed in the Pacific Ocean after an unexpected crisis occurred 200,000 miles away from Earth. Apollo 13 was the seventh manned mission in the Apollo programme and the third that was intended to land on the Moon – a goal that was dashed when one of the two oxygen tanks on the Service Module exploded on route. The mission was aborted and the astronauts completed a number of mid-course corrections in order to achieve the trajectory that would allow them to re-enter Earth’s atmosphere. The OMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award pays homage to the unforgettable mission 45 years ago and celebrates the teamwork, quick thinking, ingenuity and courage that brought Commander Jim Lovell, Command Module Pilot Jack Swigert and Lunar Module Pilot Fred Haise home safely. A closer look at the timepiece shows that Snoopy, the beloved dog from the Peanuts cartoon and a NASA mascot, decorates the dial and the caseback – a small tribute to the Silver Snoopy Award that OMEGA was presented with in 1970 in recognition of its contributions to the entire Apollo programme.

Classic black and white

The dial of the Speedmaster Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award, inspired by the black and white comic strips printed in newspapers, is at once recognisable as the inverse of its legendary predecessor. The white dial contrasts the black varnished Moonwatch-style hands and the polished black ceramic bezel, which features a Super-LumiNova tachymeter scale. Super-LumiNova is also found on the central hour, minute and chronograph seconds hands. The luminescent material was used to make the indexes and their glow is enhanced by the black varnish that fills the indexes’ top cavities.

Words to live by

Distinguishing this limited edition timepiece are the two inscriptions that decorate the dial. Fourteen small squares between zero and 14 seconds on the dial come together to form a long comic strip, with the words “What could you do in 14 seconds?” written underneath. The question is a nod to the 14-second mid-course correction that the Apollo 13 astronauts timed with their on-board back-up timing device: the OMEGA Speedmaster.

At the centre of the dial is the quote: “Failure is not an option.” These inspiring words were spoken by actor Ed Harris who played Apollo 13 Flight Director Gene Kranz in the 1995 film about the historic mission, Apollo 13. A small image of a sleeping Snoopy painted on the dial with Super-LumiNova is positioned in the small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock and it appears as if he is dreaming of the token phrase that is often used in association with the mission.

One-of-a-kind caseback
Among the most interesting and intriguing features of the timepiece is its alluring caseback. Protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal is a 925 silver medallion that resembles the pin that accompanied the Silver Snoopy Award that OMEGA received in 1970. The silver Snoopy is mounted on a plate of the same material and is surrounded by dark blue enamel. Silver powder is sprinkled by hand over the enamel of each individual caseback, giving the impression that Snoopy is floating in space. “SILVER SNOOPY AWARD”, “EYES ON THE STARS”, “45TH ANNIVERSARY”, “0000/1970” and “APOLLO XIII” are engraved in the stainless steel caseback in black.

Final touches

The 42 mm stainless steel timepiece is presented on a black coated nylon fabric strap with white stitching and a foldover clasp. The Speedmaster Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award will be produced in an edition limited to 1,970 pieces. At its heart is the OMEGA calibre 1861, the same manual-winding chronograph movement that powered the legendary Moonwatch.

The OMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award is offered with a full two-year warranty and is water resistant to 5 bar (50 metres / 167 feet).

4) The OMEGA Speedmaster ‘57 revisited

Capturing the character of the original but with its own 21st century flair

In 2013, OMEGA unveiled an upgrade of the original Speedmaster of 1957. With its Co-Axial movement and classic design, the watch was an instant hit as it combined the best of both aesthetics and mechanics. This year, the brand has revisited the timepieces and created a new model that, while boasting several updated features, remains loyal to the style of the watch that has continued to be an icon in the industry for more than half a century.

The 41.5 mm stainless steel Speedmaster ’57 has a polished and brushed casebody that is complemented by its brushed bezel, which features the tachymeter scale that is at once associated with the chronographs in this legendary watch family. Protected by a box-form scratch-resistant sapphire crystal is a black dial with white and beige transferred dial indications. Distinguishing this model from its 2013 counterpart are the recessed hour markers that are partially filled with “vintage“ Super-LumiNova that emits a green light.

Another design element that sets this timepiece apart from its latest predecessor but creates a tighter link to the original Speedmaster is the look of the hands. The polished facetted rhodium-plated central hour and minute hands have been created in the “Broad Arrow” style and are coated with Super-LumiNova. Alpha-shaped hands can be found in the small 60-minute and 12-hour recorder at 3 o’clock and the small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock.

This inspired timepiece is presented on either a brown leather strap with a polished and brushed stainless steel foldover clasp or OMEGA’s patented brushed and polished stainless steel screw-and-pin bracelet with a butterfly clasp. The OMEGA Co-Axial calibre 9300 is visible through the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal caseback. The reliability and accuracy of this extraordinary mechanical movement is such that the Speedmaster ’57 is offered with a full four-year warranty. As with all the timepieces in the Speedmaster family, this watch is water resistant to 10 bar (100 metres / 330 feet).

5) The OMEGA Speedmaster White Side of the Moon: Capturing the brilliance of a full moon

First, there was the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon, and then OMEGA revealed its counterpart inspired by lunar dust, the Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon. To round off the collection, OMEGA is proud to introduce yet another innovative timepiece inspired not by astronauts’ views of the Moon in space, but rather the radiance of the celestial body as seen from Earth: the OMEGA Speedmaster White Side of the Moon.

Underscoring the brand’s commitment to innovative creations and unique and advanced production processes, this eye-catching chronograph is the third in OMEGA’s selection of solid ceramic timepieces. The white zirconium oxide ceramic dial is complemented by a brushed and polished 44.25 mm ceramic casebody made of the same brilliant material. The polished white ceramic bezel has a matt chromium nitride tachymeter scale. The polished ceramic pushers on the case function totally independently so there is no risk to the chronograph mechanisms as a result of inadvertent manipulation.

The box-form scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, treated with an anti-reflective coating on both sides, protects the dial with its 18K white gold “Moonwatch”-style hands and applied indexes. The central chronograph seconds hand, however, is rhodium-plated and stands out with a red tip – an unexpected dash of colour on the face of the timepiece. White Super-LumiNova coats the central hour, minute and chronograph seconds hands as well as the indexes and the two dots at 12 o’clock. Engraved just above the centre of the dial are “ZrO2” and, also in red, “Speedmaster”. There is a small white sub-dial at 3 o’clock that serves as a 60-minute and 12-hour recorder and a small second sub-dial can be found at 9 o’clock.

The Speedmaster White Side of the Moon is presented on a white leather strap with a white foldover clasp with grade 5 titanium frame-spring folders – the special ceramic clasp distinguishes this model from its siblings.

The polished white ceramic caseback, with its bevelled scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, features matt chromium nitride marks and is engraved with the name of the watch: “White Side of the Moon”. The OMEGA Co-Axial calibre 9300, the first in-house Co-Axial movement to feature a chronograph function, is at the heart of this statement-making timepiece.

6) Extending the ceramic Speedmaster legacy: The Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon collection

Rhapsodized, romanticized and analysed, the Moon has always enchanted us. This celestial body, whose surface has been explored by only twelve human beings, continues to be magical and alluring. Although they have been scientifically explained, its phases and craters remain mysterious. It was the adventures and the accomplishments of the Apollo 8 astronauts that inspired the all-black, ceramic Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon, but it is the mystique of the Earth’s nightlight and its ever-changing yet constant presence that has spurred the creation of four new OMEGA timepieces that are now part of the collection: Black Black, Sedna Black, Pitch Black and Vintage Black.

Black Black (311.92.44.51.01.005)

The Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Black Black” has a polished and brushed black ceramic casebody, a matt black ceramic dial and a black ceramic clasp on a black coated nylon fabric strap. Giving this model its nickname are its brushed blackened Moonwatch-style hands and blackened applied indexes – all of which are coated with black Super-LumiNova. The familiar sub-dials at 3 and 9 o’clock are also matt black and the black ceramic bezel has a black lacquered tachymeter scale.

Sedna Black (311.63.44.51.06.001)

Combining OMEGA’s ceramic technology with its exclusive rose gold alloy, the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Sedna Black” has a completely brushed black ceramic case with an 18K Sedna™ gold bezel ring which matches the 18K Sedna™ gold applied indexes and hands. The marks on the matt grey dial have been created using laser ablation. “Vintage” Super-LumiNova coats the central hour, minute and gold-plated chronograph seconds hands as well as the indexes and the two dots at 12 o’clock. This timepiece is presented on a black leather strap with a brushed ceramic foldover clasp.

Pitch Black (311.92.44.51.01.004)

The Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Pitch Black” is distinguished by the Super-LumiNova that coats the indexes on its matt black ceramic dial. The ceramic timepiece has a polished and brushed casebody and a brushed ceramic bezel with a tachymeter scale also in Super-LumiNova. The matt black sub-dials have varnished hands. The “Pitch Black” is presented on a black leather strap with ecru stitching and a ceramic foldover clasp.

Vintage Black (311.92.44.51.01.006)

The Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Vintage Black” stands out with brown indexes and hands, which complement the “vintage” Super-LumiNova. The brushed ceramic bezel has a “vintage” Super-LumiNova tachymeter scale and, as with the other new models in this family, the matt ceramic dial has been created using laser technology. The “Vintage Black” has blackened central hands and varnished brown hands on the sub-dials at 3 and 9 o’clock. Another distinguishing feature is the brown leather strap which gives this innovative timepiece a more classic appearance.

Extending the ceramic Speedmaster legacy
These four new timepieces share a caseback design that hints at their common inspiration: the original Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon. The black ceramic caseback ring of each of these models features matt chromium nitride marks as well as the name of this iconic collection: “Dark Side of the Moon”. Each of these black ceramic timepieces is powered by the OMEGA Co-Axial calibre 9300.

7) OMEGA introduces the stunning De Ville Prestige Dewdrop

An elegant timepiece gets a new look inspired by our Fine Jewellery collection

The De Ville Prestige collection has long been distinguished by its sophisticated style. Featuring understated dials, state-of-the-industry movements and timelessly fashionable designs, this watch family is aptly named. And with the introduction of the newest ladies’ models, which combine elegant fine jewellery with precise timekeeping, the collection appeals to a new generation of fashion-forward style icons.

The De Ville Prestige stands out with its jewellery bracelet, inspired by the OMEGA Fine Jewellery Dewdrop collection. Dewdrop-shaped beads crafted from 18K red or yellow gold come together to form a glamorous, fluid bracelet. The five-link bracelet has a butterfly clasp.

This gorgeous timepiece is available in two sizes – 32.7 mm and 27.4 mm – and is fashioned from either 18K red or yellow gold. There are also two variations of the dial: one style is created from pearled white mother-of-pearl and decorated with diamond indexes. The luxurious edition features an enchanting golden butterfly design that is complemented by white mother-of-pearl and diamond indexes as well. Both versions are adorned with a fully diamond-set bezel. The 32.7 mm models have a date window at 6 o’clock on the dial.

The vertically brushed caseback of the De Ville Prestige Dewdrop is embossed with an image of Chronos, the god of time, and engraved with the iconic De Ville logo.

At the heart of the larger of the two sizes is the Co-Axial calibre 2500, the movement that signalled a revolution in mechanical watchmaking. This De Ville Prestige Dewdrop is offered with a three-year warranty. The smaller version is powered by the OMEGA quartz calibre 4061 and has a two-year warranty. Both sizes are water resistant to 3 bar (30 metres / 100 feet).
