Breguet Celebrates June 26^th “Tourbillon Day”

On June 26, 1801, Abraham-Louis Breguet patented a revolutionary mechanism, which neutralized the effects of gravity providing incredible precision in mechanical timepieces. This invention was an engineering feat that cemented the illustrious watchmaker’s standing as one of the most innovative figures of all time.

Today, the brand continues to pay tribute to its founder and the innovation that changed timekeeping by presenting an exhibition entitled “Breguet, the innovator. Inventor of the Tourbillon.” This exhibition showcasing the legacy of the A.-L. Breguet and the impact of the tourbillon in modern watchmaking, was launched in Geneva in January 2013 and is touring internationally throughout Europe and Asia. Continuing in the spirit of innovation, Breguet unveiled the Ultra-thin Tourbillon 5377 at Baselworld 2013 which is set to hit the market in 2014. This stunning timepiece boasts a slim case measuring a thickness of only 7mm, housing a movement that is just 3mm thick! However, the most impressive component of the watch aside from the tourbillon is a periphery rotor which oscillates around the side of the case allowing the wearer an unobstructed view of the movement.
