TAG Heuer

Carrera calibre 18 Telemeter

We have heard in the past few days of the reedition to come of the Autavia 2446. I have been wearing these days another TAG Heuer classic chronograph with a superb look in my opinion and which was released a few months ago.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 18 is a traditional two-register automatic chronograph with a 1960s flavor and a nod to the Heuer legacy in crafting chronographs. A really pleasing design.

The round polished steel case is well-proportioned. It is 39mm in diameter which I like. It sports faceted lugs and an antiglare box glass. It has a transparent back showing its automatic movement with a clean simple finish.

The Carrera Calibre 18 telemeter has a superb sunray finish dial with changing hues. The pleasing play of light is enhanced by the box glass. It is well-proportioned with two contrasting registers with azurage and a 1960s style Heuer logo. It is softly curved with faceted indexes which enhances the vintage inspiration of the piece. The date is not a necessary addition in my opinion but is still a useful indication.

The Telemeter scale underlines the traditional 1960s flavor of the watch. Plus, it makes it the perfect wear if you plan to fire shells over the week-end.

The watch is worn on a perforated calf leather strap with a folding safety buckle. Very coherent with the automotive heritage of Heuer Chronographs and specifically of the Carrera. A tachymeter instead of the telemeter might have been a better match.

Inside the case, the caliber 18 with automatic winding is a sellita base with a DD module.
