Dial Questions for Team WatchTech

Hi all,

I've recently come across the WatchTech forum here on PuristSPro and I absolutely love the reports, stories, and feedback here. Amazing.

Unfortunately, I don't have much knowledge to share. Instead, I have a question regrading dials. Any thoughts or suggestions on resources (or links to threads that cover this topic that I may have missed) would be greatly appreciated.

With any luck, this thread can serve as a launching pad for more dial tech questions and answers.

My question(s) is this: how are dials attached to watches?
a- What do dials rest on / how are they secured?
b- Are the methods for placing a dial different between types or brands of watches?
b2- If yes, are there general approaches that we can identify?
c- Have the methods or technologies changed over time?
c2- How have the technologies for making dials themselves changed and how does this come to bear on placing them in a watch?

If these questions are simply too lengthy to answer (or unclear, or misguided), I attach below an example of a specific period and style that I am particularly interested in. How are were these mid '50s Patek dials made and how were they placed / secured? I've noticed that these can take on a wrinkled or folding form, usually near where the dial slopes down to meet the case. What is happening here?

Any and all thoughts greatly appreciated!
