Dumb question. Does anyone have the details on how to change the strap on a Patek?
I?ve changed straps on all my watches but I hit a brick wall with my 5111.
I was trying to change the strap and just could not get the spring bar to compress. I tried and tried, even using quite a bit of force, but was not successful in compressing the spring bar. I was about to use a bigger hammer but decided to first talk with my very knowledgeable salesperson. He said that they were difficult to change and required experience. He tried to explain what was different but I just couldn?t get a mental picture of what was required. Since there is no local AD, I had to send it back to the AD for a strap replacement. (Scary sending a high value item via UPS, but no problems!!)
Turnaround was excellent and I got the strap replaced but I?d like to be able to make future strap changes myself.
What makes changing the strap on a Patek so different?
Are all Pateks like this or just the 5111?
Is there a documented procedure for changing straps? (I?ve searched this forum)
Are special tools required?
