Duometre Unique Travel Time

I had the Paris Boutique WG version, but changed to this RG version for some warmth, for those occasions when I wear a mechanical watch.

This is a real tour de force and unfortunately under-appreciated outside the JLC collector community.

Let's recap some features that are impressive as stand-alone complications, but doubly so in combination in a single  watch:

  • Dual wing escapement with separate power trains for the home and "away" or travel  time displays.
  • Independent power reserves for the home and away time displays.
  • Instantaneous jumping hour for the away time.
  • Ability to change the away time time in discrete 1 hour increments and decrements with push buttons (with better feel than my  Lange Timezone, and in both directions, and with the away time location shown more romantically on a rotating globe, so form AND function vs. form over function).
  • Ability to set the away time in discrete 1 minute increments with the crown, independent of the home time. This is like the Franck Muller Master Banker or Parmigiani Hemispheres, except you get precise minute increments like the GO Senator Chronometer.  Hence the name Unique Travel Time - you can set the travel time to any hour and minute combination, even for places with 30 minute or 15 minute offsets for their timezone. You can also use the away time display as a 12 hour timer by setting the travel time to 12:00 and letting the watch count up from there.
  • Innovative shaded day/night ring for the away time.
  • Zero reset for the second hand when you pull the crown out, like a Lange Sax-O-Mat.
  • Beautiful legible grained dial with nicely framed jump hour window and color coded home and away hands (gold for home, blue for away).

All this in one amazing package, but JLC of course have done a mediocre job communicating the features and marketing the watch.  JLC are my favorite brand and got me into watch collecting and this is why I sometimes express disappointment when their releases don't hit the mark for what I think of as interesting new high complications in the "mid-price" segment.

And this is why I still appreciate mechanical watches even though I don't wear them as often as I used to.
