First Full Moon in the Year of the Monkey
Released back in 2008 when there were still non-GS Spring Drive. Even after many years, the rather unique styling, at least for Seiko, is still very pleasing to my eye and the watch is on the big side with 42mm+ and very thick, adding to a great wrist presence. The long gliding second hand adds a solemn 'counter weight' to this hefty watch and relates nicely with the moon phase. The case construction is on the more complicated side with upper and lower case holding the protruding lugs. Hands with their facets and polished sides as well as hour markers are at par with GS. Apparently, the Accounting Department didn't impose too many restrictions, otherwise there wouldn't be 6(!) different hour marker sizes... Same applies to the movement decoration: the curved 'Tokyo stripes' emerging from the glide wheel find their continuation perfectly on the oscillating weight. Also, compared to today's GS Spring Drive calibers, the blued screws add a nice touch as well as the perlage on the lower plates.
Thanks for watching!
