A. Lange & Söhne

Has Lange lost its way?

I must say with all deference and humility that I am shocked by the "Double Split". Again, our friends at Lange have simply taken the existing design of the Datograph and tweaked it to achieve an interesting, but rather unspectacular, complication.

The design of the L1 Moonphase is a modified L1, as is the tourbillon. It's like an architect basing all of his designs on the same house, with little additions and modifications here and there -- but basically the same house over and over.

Meanwhile, GO is coming out with panoretrographs, interesting tourbillons, etc. AP introduces a shock proof tourbillon and a unique city-specific Equation of Time.

The quality of Lange is among the best, but when do you branch out and really spread your design wings? Lange hasn't really done anything of pure innovation since 1999 (the year of the Datograph and 1815 Moonphase).

My friends, wouldn't it have been exciting to see Lange's version of a minute repeater or equation of time, or even a true sports (or divers) watch?
