Girard Perregaux

information from Peter

Hi Peter,

I?m writing to you because you seem to be among the most knowledgeable people in the world when it comes to GP watches, and nobody else seems to be able to help me. A few years ago, I purchased a vintage GP Gyromatic, a 39j model that keeps excellent time.

There is a number on the case (9073 B) and a number on the movement (423784). Do these numbers belong to a system in which they are associated with specific information about the watch? If so, can you help me get the information?

Thanks in advance,

James Everett

Peter answered:

Hi James,

you?re welcome; thank you for your kind words!

Here?s a link you can copy&paste in your Forum post, so the picture will be visible:

The number on the case indicates the reference, which puts your watch into early 1970?s.
The movement number indicates the calibre, which in this case is the latest run of Gyromatic movements GP made.
Just a question: Does it "hack", so the second hand stops when the crown is pulled out to set the time?

It?s a nice case; the dial may be some older refinish, but these pieces are in fact well-made and reliable watches.
Probably not what GP does today, but in any aspect above average now and then.

Greetings from germany,

Peter
