Breguet

Interesting experience at Breguet boutique in Beverly Hills

I had been thinking about a Marine for a while but had never seen one in the metal so I stopped in to the Breguet boutique in Beverly Hills. The staff were very courteous, and the watch (although too large for my taste) very nice. However, it was a somewhat quirky experience:

1. Although I didn't ask about it, the salesman volunteered the information that since Breguet had become affiliated with Nouvelle Lemania (the word "Swatch" did not pass his lips), Breguet was now a "true manufacture." (This was somewhat puzzling to me as the movement in the Marine is an F. Piguet, but perhaps there is something about the corporate relationships I don't know.)

2. There was no magnifying glass in the shop. The salesman invited me to admire the guilloche work on the face and rotor, but I had to do it  with a glass I dug out of my briefcase.

3. There was a mirror in the shop, but it was on the inside of a closet door in the back room. (They seemed to be doing some reorganizing, so I'm not sure that is normally the case.)

4. The salesman, who was not an expert on the features of the watch, had quite a good handle on issues of alternative straps, buckles, etc.

It was a nice experience, but just a bit surreal.
