I have received, on approval, a vintage Patek Phillipe Quartz men's watch with an alligator band that is notched in the center to accomodate two pegs on each end. it is said to be from the 1960s, when Patek Phillipe first started manufacturing quartz movements.
It is square Art Deco style with a single row of diamonds on each side and diamonds on four time points on gold watch face. The case is real gold and the diamonds are authentic, according to a local fine jeweler.
I question the authenticity as I am unable to remove the back of the case. The front of the case with the crytal and the diamonds can be pried off, but not the back of the case. No serial number anywhere.
Another concern I have is the markings on the case. It has "Patek Phillipe" and "Geneve" under that. On the bottom half of the face of the watch, it says "Quartz."
In the research I have done, I have never seen the word quartz on the face of a Patek Phillipe.
I would appreicate any direction I can get from this forum as to determining the authenticity of this piece. I also would most appreciate any direction I can recieve in where I could send this piece for appraisal for insurance purposes.
FYI: there was no accompanying documentation with this watch other than the assurance that I could return the item if not pleased.
My thanks and appreication from a novice.
