Jacky Ickx 4 versus 5 Flyback

When I first discovered Chopard's Limited Edition Jacky Ickx 4 in 2011, I was lucky to get hold of one within a day of searching, and it came with a good number for the watch. To me, this is my first Chopard and also truly amazed with the features, design and pricing of the watch, unique to the Chopard line of chronographs. Four distinct features stood out - big date, flyback, 24 hours chrono register, and screw down chrono button pushers. My only criticism is the size, if it get fitted to the XL range, then it will receive my full mark rating.

The new Jacky Ickx LE 5 is in our local boutique, recently examined one face to face. Dial layout is personal, I would prefer JI-4 equal size circular dials for the seconds, minutes & 24 hours register. Gone in the JI-5 is the screw-down chrono button pushers. Whilst the JI-4 is limited to just 1000 pieces, JI-5 is now limited to 2000 pieces. For me, any watches with less production quantity far exceed in terms of collectible value, than one with more pieces made available.

And finally to the following feature, and I was debating with a senior staff in the boutique as to whether JI-5 has or not - the Flyback function. Perhaps readers can shed a positive light on this issue. I have read many articles/reviews on JI-5, to me it "looks" it has Flyback, the actual watch in boutique does not carry the word "Flyback" on the watch dial (JI-4 has so). The official boutique reference does not say so either. We ended the discussion with a big "?" as I left the boutique.

Will I buy the JI-5, highly unlikely to chase after model, unless it has more functions or features over the previous edition.

BR, Ian
