Horological Meandering

my 44 King Seiko arrived today............

as a follow on to my post from may 29th about my ever increasing collection(or selection) of Grand and King Seiko's i thought i'd post pics of the 1964 '44' King Seiko that i'd just purchased or was about to purchase or something like that.

37mm case which is a good size, 14kt gold filled and virtually unmarked, which for a watch built the same year i was is pretty good. the crown is showing signs of wear and may not be original, but my crown is losing its hair so i cant complain.

thanks to help from JoeT i know that this is the first batch of the 2nd model 44KS which has no calibre number on the movement, but does have the wonderful hack second arm fitted as an afterthought. this is not the chronometer version, but i dont think that matters looking at the condition of the movement.

anyway, here's some pics i took this morning.

the movement pic is from the seller.

i think you'll agree that the build quality is quite amazing and very close to that of Grand Seiko's of the period.

with regard to accuracy, its a bit early to tell, but i set the time to the speaking clock at about 1030am and its lost 1 second since then. i think it needs a bit of time to settle after its journey from the Far east to UK. i will update timekeeping after a couple of days.

my pictures seem to be improving as well which bodes well for future posts.

i love the Grand Seiko's so much that yesterday i purchased a 56GS auto, the last of the GS range until late 1980's when they started production again.

enjoy

Graham
