My Birth Year Rolex Submariner (Mark V Maxi Dial)
Guys, really excited this week and wanted to put up a little post. It's funny that as one ages one gravitates towards Rolex -- think its a natural phenomenon. I've been very laid back in watch acquisitions of late (money and time consuming) but yet over the years I've cultivated a deep liking for the simplicity of a time only Submariner. Naturally the ref. 5513 was the only choice.
Cut to the chase, the stars began to align themselves for me over the last 2 months. Had a very good friend who picked up a 5513 knowing I would be interested. He decided to sell me the watch at cost - and below market - and naturally, I was blown away by the gesture and could only say yes. Upon checking the serial numbers we both realized the watch was circa 1984, which is my birth year.
Last night, I took possession of it. I haven't been feeling any greater than this in a long time. The 5513 submariner with Mark V maxi dial is a plane Jane but nonetheless truly special in my heart. A workhorse kinda watch, the 5513 is perfect for workaholics like me who slog it out on the desk. This watch is less eye catching on the outside and is perfect for a rookie to wear on the trading floor (have to keep all gold watches off the wrist as I can't be seen wearing a nicer watch than my boss!). And at the heart of it all, the 5513 to me is the epitome of simplicity in the Rolex lineage.
I love my '84 Rolex Submariner ref. 5513 Mark V. And this watch now has a very special, little provenance about the good friends who were involved in this. I dedicate this post to the Rolex community and also to my special friends CL, MG and SC, thanks a bunch. Would not have happened without you guys.
And one last shot:
It is written in the stars. Men who guide the destinies of the world, wear - vintage - Rolex.
