Patek Philippe

Need Advice on Service please

I have a calibre 23-300 "Ronde" that belonged to my father, and he used as a daily wear for some years ever since he purchased it in 1957. He used it through the 70's and discontinued using it daily. I remember I took this watch to Geneva personally in 1976 for service. I don't think it ever got another service after this one. The watch runs exactly on time.

Now...2006. I don't wear the watch daily but still wanted to give it a proper service and extend its life. I took it to my nearest AD I trust and the AD told me they would send to Patek New York only as a formality, since they knew the watch had to be sent to Geneva for servicing (being a "vintage" watch). I expected a turn-around of about 6 months to be good.

It turns out I waited 6 months for Patek New York to "confirm" they need to send it to Geneva because it is a vintage watch, and now I have to "really wait" for the service.

I had the watch pulled out from Patek New York and delivered back to me.
Is there any other way that you found reasonable to send a Patek watch for service? At this rate, the AD estimated a couple of years of wait, that I think is utterly ridiculous, even if I don't use the watch regularly.
Any thought is appreciated. Please reply by email if that is more appropriate for you.
Thanks
Joaquin
