I can confirm it is the dial
The low legibility reminded me of my little Portugieser 3531 in black. You need to take the time to catch the right light to read the time.
Some will recoil, but I always thought Lange should have lumed the hands.
Would give it a more casual look, which pairs well with the black dial. But maybe that would cannibalize the mighty Datograph too much. Cheers, John
