new speedmaster/9100
i just got the current isuse of watchtime magazine, and it has a nice section on the new speedmaster. i have to say, it's quite nice looking -- this coming from someone who's not real big on speedmasters. but it looks very well executed. here's the question: saphire case back? i have to say i'm not a big fan of having this on this particular watch. some "tool" watches, i think, should keep to the spirit of a tool watch. and to me, that would mean have a solid steel caseback even though the 9100 movement is fantastic. but putting the saphire crystal on the back for display the movement seems like a hybridization of dress and tool, or something along those lines.
in a similar vein, i liked having a solid caseback on my planet ocean. that's just consistent with the watch's nominal purpose: sport. now if we mention the hour vision or devilles, that would be a totally different situation....
anyone care to share thoughts on this issue or on this very attractive version of the speedmaster?
