Omega’s 270 Chf spider silk NATO strap

The title says it all: Omega recently introduced a NATO strap made of Biosteel, an artificial spider silk produced by a German startup... According to Biosteel website:

Biosteel® fibers are 100% nature based biopolymers. Our intelligent fiber is superior due to its combination of strength and elasticity – and at the same time ultralight. This all comes with high skin sensation behavior, controlled moisture management and 100% biodegradablity.”

I have to admit that I got pretty curious about how a spider silk strap could wear... I was not super fond of the color but this sounded like an interesting and unique innovation, so I took the plunge!

The quality is very good, the price is high but the included signed Omega buckle makes it a bit more acceptable...

I actually really like the look on a speedy, the material has a “shine” which is quite unique. It feels “artificial” yet delicate and looks like a space age material which could be used on a space suit.

It’s also super comfy and feels “light” on the skin (in a silky sort of way)

2 minor deceptions: I was expecting to feel a weight difference vs a standard polyester NATO... the Biosteel fiber might be extra light but the strap is quite thick, weight is very similar. I would also have preferred full metal “ buckles” instead of fabric ones.

Overall a totally superfluous but very pleasant expense wink let’s now see how it will age
