I wanted to start a discussion around the Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, reference 311.30.42.30.01.005, particularly from the perspective of long-term ownership and condition retention.
Over time, one thing I’ve consistently noticed with this reference is how well the hesalite crystal and asymmetrical case wear, even after years of regular use. While the movement (cal. 1861) is well documented, case sharpness and bracelet stretch seem to be the main differentiators when assessing examples on the secondary market.
In my experience, unpolished cases with original brushing tend to hold collector interest far more than lightly refinished examples, even when service history is identical. Bracelet condition, especially clasp wear, often tells a more honest story than production year alone.
I’d be interested to hear from other owners:
– How has your example aged?
– Have you refinished or kept it original?
– Any long-term reliability observations worth noting?
