Quick look at the Longines Avigation BigEye
While waiting for a flight recently I happened to run across the Longines Avigation BigEye and had to give it a try 
The watch combines some really appealing elements, such as the dial design, the lack of date, still manageable size (41mm), the movement (L688 column wheel chronograph, with 54h power reserve)...
Downsides? Perhaps a tad thick at 14,5mm but it sits well on the wrist in all honesty. The case finishing, while certainly OK for the price, is not quite of the level of the higher grade Swatch Group products. But overall a great watch at a reasonable price for what you get.

But need to plan out my horological year first - who knows, maybe next time

I like it as well. For a long time I've been after a
Type XX, but perhaps I'll land on one of these instead. How long was the lug to lug do you reckon? Under 50mm?
Similar reaction to yours - great looking, too thick
I felt it was simply too thick on the wrist. I really wish Longines had a basic no date manual wind movement (no need to even finish it all that well) for Heritage chronos.

Bet you they use the same grade Valjoux movement that IWC does for their pilot chrono at a fraction of the cost! I think this watch has a certain cool factor.
