scans of something seen during the VC auction...but not for sale
The original Mercator model made in 1994 with cloisonne enamel dial, n?1 was sold at the Art of Vacheron Constantin auction organised by Antiquorum in November 1994.
50 pieces were made representing Africa/Europe/Asia and 50 representing the Americas. These dials later inspired the regular production mercators with engraved dials.
The Mercator is what I love about VC: a brilliant idea, original implementation, craftsmanship and something never seen before!
