For month now the the 5204P is my daily beater. I wear it every day ant the watch looks like still like new. I defenitely don't buy watches to store them in a safe. I want to wear my watches on any occassion and I don't want to regret it afterwards! ...

And I am with you 100%. Since getting it, my 1815 RPC has been my daily watch. I did not buy it to admire it in a watch box-scratches be damned.

it's that you might not be able to do better than this one as a first Lange. This is a phenomenal watch. And I'll bet you a dollar it won't be your last Lange.

The RL is a chunky watch. It looks big and wears big for a 3-handed watch.

It could be fantastic but the point is that it will be difficult to see and test the watch before ordering it... The movement is spectacular and it could be a great option. But I still think that at this price level a chronograph would be a better way to ... 

An 1815 chronograph has a breath taking movement and for further exclusitivity, one could opt for the white gold boutique edition. Also the 1815 chrono at 39.5mm is slightly smaller than the Richard Lange PLM. Then again, you may specifically want a 3 han... 

I am polishing yellow gold myself and would not hesitate to polish this large and wide bezel of the PLM, too. I you feel comfortable with the thickness and size of a 5204 than you should be fine with a PLM which is, considerably, thinner than a 5204. This... 

There are chronographs from most of the marquee brands but I am yet to see a fusee & chain based caliber from a Patek or AP or Vacheron or any of the Independents as well. Zenith does have one but that is a rather large watch with a large enough price too...
