Spotted: Red Rods & A Dart for Art

Howdy guys, I have been accumulating pictures at a breakneck pace and unable to process and post them all. But today I would like to start with a focus on Art's favorite vehicle. I've accumulated quite a few over the past couple months. If you are a regular viewer please pardon any duplication.

Dart peeking out from behind a truck

Martin Luther King, Jr. peeking out from the Dart.

Now you guys have been so patient with all the junkers I've been posting, I think we should only do clean, good-looking cars for the rest of today. Ok?

This first was hiding under cover and it looks spectacular. But the video camera warning sign kept us from poking around.

I think we can do a run of red cars for awhile.  This good-looking El Camino was in front of the tuna fisherman's memorial on Shelter Island on a perfect fall day in SD.

A few blocks away we found this rod in front of the bar. Sorry, "the Club Marina."

I said they would be clean and shiny, not that you could buy one...

This convertible is back in the 'hood where I grew up. It was quite nice too.

The owner drove up in another car just as we spotted this one. We got out and had a chat. She's a few years younger than I am but we went to the same middle and high schools. Nice T-bird and a good jeep too.

We didn't ask about the telephone booth. In case none of you youngsters remember, we used to go into those little glass boxes and talk "through a wire" to other people.

This orange truck caught my eye - shiny and about 20 feet long with matching camper and dualie wheels. If two driving lights are good, why not 4? And throw some marker lights on the cab too!

This Chevy is not so big, but it's very nice, without all the holes and brackets on the body that disfigure most older trucks.

Just a discrete "Bolt" for the San Diego Charger fan/owner, some nice wheels and a loop step to help one mount his motorized steed.

We found another of those Little Library deals - and she brought out a book for approval.

Unimpressed with the literacy of the Librarian, I turned it down. It might have been useful 40 years ago when we got hitched ...

A cherry El Camino showed us his backside as we headed West. But wait, if you look closely you see the GMC badge which indicates this a sister car called the GMC Sprint (at first) or GMC Caballero.

We saw this 1967 Chevy Impala and got a photo of it before this large man said, "What the?"

We said "Nice low rider" and he replied, "Yeah, I wish the dude would park it in front of his own house" we looked across the street to see a couple other (not so nice) cars.
So apparently the dude and our new acquaintance have some unresolved parking issues. As I have some of those myself, I commiserated with him, and we parted friends.

We left my old neighborhood and ended up at the harbor again, with a couple vehicles  in the parking lot: a beautiful Chevy truck

painted with nautical colors

And this lovely 1992 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser Station Wagon. 5525mm long and 5.7L Chevy engine. Only 4000 were built -- the last RWD body-on-frame Oldsmobile.

Midway down the roof is a skylight, like the old Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser (reminiscent of the trains that used to cross the West). It does look like a cross between a great white whale and a train.

Let's call it a day with the great whale. This blue whale's babies are larger than the Oldsmobile.

Cheers,

Cazalea
