WristScan

The Dive Watch session of Wrist Scan . . .

. . . is now underway.  (And not a moment too soon for Padj!)

Divers: love 'em, never had one.  For me, they're in the same category as chronos and military - watches that trigger machismo.  Just about everyone likes divers, even though only a fraction of us could use one functionally.

The divers I find most appealing are the mid-'60s classics from Omega, Longines, and Eterna, but those models are pretty much beyond reach these days.  (Or, they're pricier than I'm willing to spend marginal funds on when there are more compelling watches to collect.)  Still, I wouldn't mind adding an affordable vintage diver to my collection, like the manual wind Seamaster 120 Nicolas recently posted on our Omega forum.

I have an acquaintance who was a USN diver in the '60s, and then a commercial diver after he left the Navy.  And, he had an interest in a pawn shop in the '70s, so he was able to amass several highly desirable watches at literally fire sale prices, including two 1675s and a Speedmaster.

These two, however, were acquired the hard way.  This Blancpain Fifty Fathoms . . .

. . . was one of his USN-issued watches (which I'll try to confirm this weekend if I can contact him).  And this Doxa Sharkhunter . . .

. . . was gifted by none other than Jean Michel Cousteau.  It originally belonged to Jacques.

;-)

Looking forward to pics of your divers, along with any tales they have to tell.
