There's no watch quite like the Aquanaut
This post was inspired by a previous one discussing the alternatives to the sporty-chich watch on a rubber strap par excellence... the Aquanaut!
There's no watch in production that does what the Aquanaut is doing: thin, refined, not a full on sports watch and originally concieved on a thin and comfortable rubber strap.
This is a problem. There are no real alternatives to it. The closest watch I can think of is the Aqua Terra, but it is too thick to be considered an alternative. Oh wait, there's the Piaget Polo too, but it's too big and honestly, not nearly as good looking. Maybe the santos large? But again, it's big. The Blancpain Leman Aqua Lung? Discontinued.
There are countless imitations of the Royal Oak and Nautilus, why aren't we seeing some of the Aquanaut?
We just need a subtle, thin and casual watch designed around a rubber strap. A watch without a 42mm case and a rotating bezel, a watch less than 10mm and without any complications other than (maybe) a simple date window.

And in this case I actually prefer the 5167R, because of the chocolate dial and strap.
It is one of the best looking sports elegants

Bulgari is a fantastic alternative, but there are no options on a rubber strap, so I would consider the octo as a Nautilus competitor instead (I actually prefer the Octo to the Nautilus)

The Aquanaut is all-but unique in just the ways you say (I agree that the Leman Aqualung is the other strong example of the genre). AND, like you, I'd rather see more versions of THAT kind of watch than the Nautilus/Royal Oak followers that we've gotten.
Exactly. The aquanaut manages to incorporate the rubber strap in a more elegant way compared to the competition
And the Aqua Lung is by far the best alternative in my opinion

The Laureato is a really good watch
But I wouldn't consider it as a direct competitor to the Aquanaut, it's more in line with the Nautilus

love that Anita Porchet C.... had not seen it before! Been contemplating the idea of a C but still figuring things out... between bracelet and rubber for a start... and between red and turquoise accents.... but enamel... now that is exciting

Will keenly look forward to 5/6. I believe you when you say the bracelet wears well, it looks amazing. Yet to me the character of this watch is more fitting with a rubber for my wearing intents I think… and I am a bracelet watch kind of guy in most cases....
