Patek Philippe

Thought I'd drop in and ask a question of you'all , #1593->

if you have a minute or two. I've been fortunate to have some fine watches gifted to me over the years, and I've enjoyed them all (the PP and the U. Nardin are my favorites), and I have enjoyed wandering around your BB here. Lately I've become interested in finding out more about the watch given to me, my grandfather's old watch (he was no slouch when it came to buying jewelry). I've tentatively identified it as a PP model no. 1593, platinum, cal #9, 18 jewels, from some watch guide over at the bookstore.

Can anyone tell me what that all means? Also, how to care for it? Anything historical or relevant about that model? I wish I could post a pic for you, it's an elegent yet simple looking watch, but I haven't bothered to get a digital camera yet.

Thanks.
