Horological Meandering

Two themes rarely discussed

I was wondering if any of you ever experienced any of the following:

1. A general satisfaction with ones collection, without a desire expand it. Yes of course there are nice watches out there and you admire them for what they are - beautiful works of art or engineering or both and yet your lust for such pieces remains one of admiration. As one goes to the museum to view beautiful art, without the desire to hang it at home, you might enjoy a rare chance to admire say a beautiful (insert your favourite here) but it stops with that. It is a peace with one's own, almost like a happy marriage - of course there are other pretty girls out there but you are happy with your lot.

2. You maintain a collection that is well below your financial means. Perhaps there is a level where your intuition for what a mechanical watch should cost stops you from further acquisitions? Perhaps it is a different reason linked to a conservative lifestyle or an absolute approach to costs. Can one maintain a passion for horology but live well beneath ones horological means? So of those that can easily afford (and admire strongly and happy for all owners!) that (insert your favourite here) you just can't or don't commit and yet your interest and passion for horology is maintained?

Wild thoughts? I have experienced both to a degree - for how long you ask? Well, that is also a question! All the best no matter how you manage your passions! This message has been edited by Nomer on 2010-11-06 11:23:53
