Vintage Patek Pocket Watch

Hello Forum Members

I have recently been offered a Patek Pocket Watch, 17 lignes (or so), grey face, from the 40's(?), S/N around 540,000 (sorry I don't remember the exact number), has a Geneva Hallmark etc. I have checked it in flesh and from the little I learned in fora like these and publications on this brand, I think it is genuine. However, the seller has, in the past, removed the movement from its case and melted it for the gold (I know, it is absurd, but now it is too late). He fitted the movement in a SS Omega case. My question is : is it possible to have PP selling a new case for such an old watch? Has someone been in such a situation before? Any comments on the info provided (if S/N is compatible with age etc) are also welcome.

Thank you,

Fernando
