World Premiere of GP?s first official picture
You may remember the
first introduction with a few preliminary informations. Today i?d like to share some more input, of which i hope it will make clear this is another pretty special piece!
Let?s start with the full name:
GIRARD-PERREGAUX
Pour FERRARI

Automatic chronograph
Hours of the world
"Advanced Technology"
That?s the name of this baby and as you see, GP made quite a step to extend the "Advanced Technology" pieces with their most popular singular model!
The WW.TC is rightly a popular piece, in that it is a very unusual world timer and chronograph. This relatively new model in the GP portfolio found a lot of fans and the previous special editions already came to certain fame and are much coveted among the enthusiasts.
The 2004 variant is dedicated to celebrate the Italian carmaker's double victory in last year's F1 World Championship; the model name "F1 053" represents Ferrari's engine which powered the F1 2003 GA champion car.
Like other pieces of the "Advanced Technology" series, the most apparent difference of this WW.TC is the mixture of special materials for the individual components, which are the same as in use for F1 cars:
The dial is made of carbon fibre, the case that houses the manufactory-made movement is made of "GP AL" aluminium, the back, pushers and crowns are made of titanium.

But it is a true Pour Ferrari piece at the same time. This becomes more apparent by the dial, which includes Maranello, the home of the celebrated Scuderia, on the ring of international towns and cities. In addition, the numbers are outlined in Ferrari-red (or "corso rosso"), apart from being luminescent and very easy to read.
The ergonomic rubber strap is extremely comfortable to wear and is fitted with a folding safety clasp, which is another improvement in this line.
As you see, the different components made of carbon fibre, GP AL aluminium, titanium and rubber do result in a very special version, which is probably unique in this combination.
Apart from that, a specific benefit of the GP AL alloy is the reduced weight; the "F1 053" is not a light watch, but it is very comfortable to wear even if you are not into large and more hefty pieces otherwise.
And of course it is a durable sports watch; as mentioned earlier, GP AL is reported to withstand daily wear and stress comparably to steel with a comparable hardness, but only 1/3 of the specific weight:

The mixture of materials come with specific challenges in production and the "F1 053" is a
limited series of 250 pieces only!
So you better look out for your piece soon, as i?d not be surprised if it finds a lot of fans particularly because of the reduced weight.
Finally and before giving a little overview of the specific date, i?d like to add a comparison of the new "F1 053" TI/AL case and the steel case of the R&D1 watch:

As you may notice, the colour is relatively similar to steel cases and less bright than Aluminium cases used to be. In addition the case comes with a fine brushed finished on the sides, while the upper case section and bezel are highly polished.
Last, but not least, some specs:
| Technical Data |

Over all, i?d say this is a very interesting addition. The "F1 053" not only incorporates the latest in material technology, but it is a very attractive piece with the additional extra of being a watch dedicated to Ferrari. And the new case will be of benefit particularly for those who enjoy a large and very legible, but less heavy watch.
Greetings from germany,
Peter
