Girard Perregaux

Gyromatic Winding Problem service.

Your comments are most interesting - I received a quote back form the watch repairer that the watch required 'replacement automatic winding wheels' and overhaul - basically, the watch was keeping good time anyway, but you know how it is - when they get it in they like to tinker with it anyway ! - Accepting that you generally do not wind automatics - the few I had,did require some initial winding using the crown, until inertia built up by movement of the wrist - but the crown was almost impossible to budge and I did not want to force it - so your comments re.ensuring watch is in horizontal axis was of interest.
Anyway, the watch is back with me in a couple of days following his work,so I hope the replacement gyrotons will free up the mechanism more. The watchmaker did train as a repairer for Girard Perregaux and I was charged £89.00 GBP  - so lets see,if he has done the job well and not damaged the case etc. - I will pass on the details,as appropriate.

Thanks

Alex
