Girard Perregaux

Sure there?s more!

The GP4500 comes with some nice details either!

Actually the height of the GP2700 is caused not only by the spring.
But there are other factors like the balance bridge and the completely new fine regulator (the only that spans two bridges) which account for the height.
This is a pretty sturdy piece and very accurate for the size, which were some of GP?s basic considerations. It?s, so to say, not intended to be extremely thin. And i believe it doesn?t have to be, because there are nearly no watches which require an ultra-flat movement at this point.
The GP3XXX caliber family does follow a different approach, in that these were intentionally thin because of the intended use in extra-thin watches (Laureato 80100) or relatively small, curved rectangular models (first Vintage45 series). These don?t have a double third wheel and no balance bridge, thus they can be a lot thinner!

In terms of the Orient, i?d guess like with many Seiko/Citizen counterparts it is much optimized for robotized automated production.
I don?t recall a piece that compromises a quick-set instant jump date with a diameter of less than 20mm and i don?t recall any quick-set dates without additional pushers for the Orient watches.
So to me the Orient movements are a different world and these are more about cost-efficient production, so it?s rather not a fair comparison.

Cheers,

Peter
