Horological Meandering

A new acquisition

Hello,

I just acquired another piece for my personal collection (on the left). France had two important centers of watchmaking, Besancon and Cluses. The one on the left is a school piece by Paul Verdier, presumably a graduate of the school in Cluses. I doubt he failed to make the grade.

Just like the watch I have from Besancon the case is heavy, solid silver and very simple. It does have the initials PV on it which is a nice touch. Unfortunately the dial has some hairlines but I'm afraid that is something I will have to live with. I have been unable to find much more information on the Cluses school pieces although I did find some picture of large escapement models that were made by the students and are collectible right now. Apparently there is also a watchmaking museum in Cluses so I've someone has been there I would love to hear about it.

The chronograph movement is quite nice and is signed B. Pvin, which stands for Poitevin, a good name at the time in Paris.

The pictures were made in haste, so they don't do the watch justice.

Have a nice day!
Gijs
