Love the Darwin Bronzo!
I have a collection of bronze and brass watches, about half of which I have forced patina using various methods: ammonia, different vinegars, and commerical aging solutions.

If you are careful, it's hard to do irreparable damage, as most surface patina can be removed with lemon juice or commerical products like Noxon 9. Do understand you may not get the case back to 100% factory fresh, but if done properly, most of your effort can be cleaned up and started anew
