I think it's normal
I'm pretty sure the automatic winding mechanism is unidirectional, so the rotor is free to spin in both directions, but only winds the watch in one direction. I assume that what you're noticing is the lack of coupling of the rotor to the winding system when moving in the non-winding direction.
