Introducing the Linde Werdelin Spidospeed Titanium

Skeletonised construction and industrial-style design unite, as the SpidoSpeed returns in its most iconic evolution to date.

Drawing on inspiration from the racing car industry, Linde Werdelin are proud to present the SpidoSpeed Titanium. A fully skeletonised dial and main bridge is paired with LW’s chronograph complication to create a raw, stripped-back aesthetic, where the focus is on pure construction and functionality. A monochrome palette of Titanium Grade 5 with LW-blue detailing is consistent with the 2015 colour developments for Linde Werdelin’s newly updated digital sports instruments, The Rock and The Reef.

LINDE WERDELIN SPIDOSPEED TITANIUM

“We are introducing this important piece with our longest-standing US retail partner, Philadelphia-based watch atelier Martin Pulli,” reveals co-founder Jorn Werdelin. “Martin is highly respected among watch collectors, and has been a Linde Werdelin evangelist since the beginning.” The SpidoSpeed Titanium will be exclusively available at Martin Pulli from 1st June 2015, and will go on general release at a number of select retailers as of 8th June 2015. The SpidoSpeed Titanium comes in a limited and numbered series of 99 pieces worldwide, at CHF 18,000, $19,200 or £13,600, excluding VAT.

THE IDEA

The SpidoSpeed Titanium is a testament to the enduring stability of Linde Werdelin’s design DNA. Incorporating innovative artisanal techniques with refined design elements from previous generations, the SpidoSpeed Titanium sees excess material stripped away from case and body holistically, without compromising on strength or performance.

The monochrome look of the SpidoSpeed Titanium is an iconic LW design,” explains co-founder and creative mind Morten Linde. “Whilst we will continue to evolve and be innovative, in my universe Linde Werdelin will always have a watch like this – it truly captures the spirit of the brand.”

THE CASE AND MATERIALS

Crafted from lightweight Titanium Grade 5, the SpidoSpeed Titanium has a skeletonised case, with an industrial-style satin, polished and microbillé finish. Using technically-complex methods and through partnership with Chronode, S.A., an artisanal case maker, the timepiece benefits from the finest and most precise drilling and finishing. The top surface of the bezel has been brushed and polished to get the best possible light reflection, which contrasts with the subtle satin sheen and the matte microbillé. Past the numbered back case and through the sapphire crystal, Linde Werdelin’s signature Trigon pattern is visible on the rear bridge, behind the rotor with its strikingly blue detailing.

Integrated with a top-grade natural rubber strap in LW-blue as standard, a new addition to the LW line-up of straps, Linde Werdelin’s proprietary strap system allows the wearer interchangeable options, should they wish to switch to any other strap or bracelet in the series.

THE DIAL AND MOVEMENT

In keeping with the SpidoSpeed family’s philosophy of motor racing-inspired weight optimisation - taking cues from sports cars converted into high-performance track-racing cars - the SpidoSpeed Titanium strips away material without compromising on function. Alongside a fully-skeletonised dial and main bridge, the LW06 chronograph calibre, which comprises 273 parts, has had components individually skeletonised by Linde Werdelin in close partnership with prestigious independent movement manufacturers, the Jacquet Family.

The monochrome theme of Titanium Grade 5 with LW-blue detailing is extended to the hands and, for the first time, all visual screws have also been blued by heat treatment. Like everything in the LW Universe, the SpidoSpeed Titanium’s colour palette is intentional and carefully considered – it is consistent with the colours of the newly updated attachable digital sports instruments, The Rock and The Reef, which are now both available in LW-blue and natural anodised aluminium.

The “R” on the 6 o’clock sub-dial may be understated, but it holds a significant function for the adventure-seeking owner. After a full day’s skiing with The Rock, place the instrument on charge and start the SpidoSpeed’s chronograph. When the sub-dial meets the “R”, The Rock is fully charged and ready to go again.
