Agreed... the PAM172 is one of my favorites too.
I really love the look, weight and feel of this watch. Tantalium or Tantallum is truly an awesome metal, second cousin to tungsten... I think. Perhaps Panerai should have made this one with a solid caseback too, just like the PAM192... so as to increase the heft even more.
Overlooked... perhaps, but I forsee them both increasing in value in the near future as collectors see them as the rare "Heavy Metal" PAM's that they are... and it never hurts being S/E's from 2003 and 2004 (respectively), and both enjoying a limited run of 300 pieces. Awesome watches!!

I have a PAM 172 which is the very first PAM I ever bought. I have to say I appreciate its look now more than ever. The grey/blue case and the blue hands are very sublime when put on a light yellow strap. Tantallum=Rodney Dangerfield of the PAM's...no res...
Its the Luminor case one should own, both 172 & 192
I have both and I don't bother to own other Luminor 44mm case.... great color on the casing and its like a worn out PVD with blue hands.... Someday it will come around and people will like to get their hands on it.... Happy watch collecting.
