The 861 is an undecorated movement, supplied with a solid back.
If the Speedy is supplied with a display back, it comes with a decorated movement, (the 863), which is obvious due to its shiny appearance with Geneva stripes, bevelled edges on the plates, etc., all of which are missing on the 861. Either one can be used...
the 1861 is now the modern edition of the 861, but they are all superb
you may well have seen a 321 with an aftermarket display back. they are available for all the 145.022 cased watches directly from Omega or i have a supplier who can get a plain display back for a 321 calibre model. they are all great, but as Patekkie has ...

The one material difference between the cal 861 and . . .
. . . the decorated cal 863 lies in the employment of a metal brake in the chronograph section of the movement in place of the usual plastic brake . . . the residual differences are cosmetic. Cordially, Art

i did sort of forget to be specific about display backs so i'll clarify what i meant. if you want a speedy which should have a display back as standard(cal 863/1863) thats fine, but if you buy a model with 321 or 861/1861 only buy one with its original so...
