I saw only one 5396 in one of the AD's here in Bangkok also. It's a nice wach but it's a little small on my 8 inch wrist and I'm not particulary fond of the snap back case. Also I think Patek opened the new factory with the intent to increase production of watches due to the opening up of the Chinese market. I would GUESS about 100k watches a year with a lot of them, maybe 50%, being quartz. Women make up a large part of their clientel now. As far as anyone guessing about the numbers in a regular production reference that's a toss up. The only people who know the exact number aren't speaking. I believe you are correct with the statement about batch production of references.

Nobody know how many pieces of what reference or model ANY brand makes.....
.... except in some very rare circustances of limited editions or independent watch makers. Heck, no one her can even agree how many watches PP produces annually!

Did they open a new factory recently?
AFAIK, they don't have any new factory. They had a "new" factory (back then) 10 years ago... Moreover, according to their latest catalog (06/07), their production volume is about 38k a year... but they never metioned the mechancial-to-quartz ratio. Cheers...
