Hey Gordon,
I liked the white since it was launched. But when my turn came, I picked the blue thinking it was the seminal version, my silly little head filled with all the legend and lore around the creation of this model. Well, later there was an opportunity to swop. (This was sometime back; with the current situation someone like me will have little to no-chance-in-hell of getting one at retail from an AD.)
This is just personal experience, not recommendation; icons sometimes come with 'baggage'. This model taught me to drop all preconceptions and see which one sings to you. Different people will like different things. Even the same person will like different things at different times. That's perhaps what makes life interesting.

I very much like the blue one but would not want the white 5711. The white one lacks the sharp contrast between dial and case ...
... that is key for the Nautilus design to shine and for the watch to look interesting in my eyes. Not against white dial watches in general but my 5711 has got to be blue which it is.

White (aka piano dial), for sure.
The dial is way more dynamic (although this may not be perceived in pictures). Loads of ivory and silver hues. The date on the same color as the dial isn’t bad either! With all due respect, most people who allegedly don’t like the white either can’t cope ...
The white “piano dial” is at the top of my want list.
Specifically with the updated 26-330 S C movement. I’m being patient and waiting until hopefully the current fever subsides somewhat and I can find one at a more palatable price.🤞
Gordon, the white was my choice, so it will be so here too.
For me, the white dial is just more interesting. It brings more to the watch I think. There is also the little sin of contrasting date wheel colour, it is always a no no for me (unless it’s a datograph).

Blue 5711
Simple for me. Nautilus is related to sea, sea is blue (actually green blue with WHITE foam haha)
First I bought the blue, then the white dial this year..
Must say the white has a certain allure.. Especially for the fact the blue of the 5740 is incomparable.. White gets my vote !

Tough pick Gordon but having both is the easy solution as you stated. I actually prefer the white "piano" dial as I prefer the contrast and wear it more often than the blue 🤷♂️
If I choose a blue dial watch on bracelet I tend to go with my AP 15202ST which I also prefer more than the 5711/1A in blue or white 🤷♂️. As the french like to say, "chacun a son goût" 😉

The white dial 5711
is also significantly rarer (probably by a factor of 2.0-2.5). The dark 5711 has been produced since 2006... And still counting... The white 5711 from 2012 to 2019.
Hi, Gordon, I prefer the blue dial as the combination of sunray and gradient colour change is more unique. Besides, blue colour has been my preference all along.
Though the white piano dial is also a strong contender and I won't mind to have it as well. Best, Henry

between the 2, I wear the white more often. I like the clarity and it jumps out. it is also rarer and discontinued.
