Patek Philippe

Re: Some factors to consider...

Based on brief examinations (using a 10X loupe) of a few examples of Patek and Vacheron versions of the Lemania movement, I thought the anglage was a bit finer on the Patek versions, but did not notice major differences in the level of decorative finishing between the two houses. I personally prefer the aesthetics of the Patek version, however, because of the more traditional cap on the column wheel

That being said, Patek's version of the Lemania base movement has significant improvements over VC's version (which Purists far more knowledgable than myself have remarked is simply the Lemania movement decorated to VC's (high) standards). For example, Patek's version features a free-sprung balance and a longer power reserve (approximately 60 hours; due I believe to modifications to the power train).

Whether the above differences justify the price difference between the PP 5070 and VC Malte of course depends on your own preferences and priorities. Personally, while I find the VC Historique a lovely watch (and relatively reasoanbly priced), the premium for the Malte compared to the Historique is hard to justify.
