Some thoughts on high-end Seiko...
I share your sentiments with respect to the somewhat confusing strategy employed for their high end lines: GS, Ananta, Credor, Galante. To my mind, the presence of so many sub-brands adds unnecessary complication to international distribution and retail of the product; add to this there are Japan domestic only versus export market models within each sub-brand.
On the other hand, for me personally, this adds a bit of fun and mystery to the game. Perhaps, the high-end Seiko was never meant to be a widely-marketed product, reserved only for those in the know.
Several years ago, I bought a Seiko Galante Spring Drive from Wako Ginza. I waited a few years to make the purchase in Japan instead of trying via one of Seiko's international distributors as I strongly believed the addition of the watch in this way to be part of a broader experience - the modern sophistication, precision, and attention to detail in the watch a direct reflection of the manufacture at Shizukuishi Watch Studio, through to the sales staff at Wako, not to mention the atmosphere and culture of Tokyo.
One interesting thing is that the watch department at Wako carries many Swiss brands alongside Seiko. During my trip there, I was politely greeted and initially shown to the Swiss section. I politely interjected and stated I was interested in Seiko. I was then shown to the fantastic selection of all of Seiko's high end offerings. Perhaps this was a secret password of sorts?
