This watch is the Seiko 7A28-7000 from 1983. It's a quartz chronograph that times till 1/10th of a second. The removable block on the right side houses the chronograph pushers and on the left are the Split pusher and crown. It was designed by Mr. Giugiaro, one of the most influential designers of the 20th century who also designed such icons as the DeLorean.
Other than that famous pedigree it is also (in)famous as being the watch worn by Sigourney Weaver (Ripley) in the Aliens movie. Since the director of that movie, Mr. James Cameron, is a known watch nerd who is anal about the detailing in his movies, it is speculated that he specifically chose this watch for its futuristic design, which has further added to the lore.
The watch was re-issued in 2015(?) by Seiko, in a rather faithful remake.
