A few thoughts
here is a short comparaison I had done of the 3970 and the Malte Perpetual chrono a few years back:

1) The base movement is the same but PP modifies it with a Gyromax balance (maybe other but am not certain). The perpetual module, according to both brands, has been developped in house by each brand and is proprietary.
