Doc, I hear you and have myself expressed these feelings myself and even though I feel that they went through a period where they were not doing anything really exciting (well yes the repeaters and tourbillons are really cool but not really accessible to the common mortal)but I think that they are back on track with some interesting designs.
The 250th anniversary pieces were one offs but are I believe a hint of the future direction VC wants to go with more daring designs.
Some interesting new pieces have been shown the past years and notably the Hommage aux Grands Explorateurs or the beautiful platinum collection this year. The PT 950 on the dials is pretty tacky in my opinion but all I can say is WOW!! The Malte chronograph with the platinum dial is in my opinion the most beautiful chrono curently available!
From what I have heard we can expect some very interesting things from VC in the comming years. Nevertheless I do agree that VC needs to find somekind of harmony in its product range without needing to rename and reorganise the rage every few years.
Thomas, I don't quite agree with you when you say that VC has always been a conservative brand. I wasn't around then but when you look at their pieces from Verger Freres, their numerous funcky lug designs, the Cioccolatone and 38mm round models from the 50s etc...I would say that their designs were rather daring, original and even avant garde!
