WristScan

The “it” watch of the 80's...

Was the Ebel Sport Classic Chronograph, Zenith-powered, the watch that persuaded Zenith to restart production of the El Primero.

Watch by WristScan, General Brands, Ebel, Ebel 1911 El Primo

Ebel was one of the five most important watch companies in Switzerland in the 80’s. They made all the watches for Cartier, including my wife’s Santos Galbee from the 90’s. They had five factories in and around La Chaux-de-Fonds, and 500 employees. They made their own cases and bracelets, and they were a full quartz movement manufacture. At the start of the 80’s, when everyone else was consolidating to survive, Ebel was growing strongly, and without the race to the price bottom undertaken by others.

Rather than show the watch on my wrist, I’ll show it on a more famous wrist:

His had the wave bracelet from 1985, and a Zenith 3019PHC. Mine has the 1911 bracelet from 1986, and the Zenith caliber 40.0–the transitional first new production, according to Rössler. Ebel famously supplied all the watches to the Miami Vice cast after the first year.
