You made me remember my first visit to Paris, Mike...
I was fresh out of college and was visiting Europe for the first time. I stayed at a hostel in St. Germain, having a baguette for breakfast and dinner, but partying until the wee hours. Good times for sure!
Like you, nowadays, better hotels, crowds, bars, and meals are present. Luckily the memories of that first visit will last a lifetime ;-)
