Thanks to the folks here who kindly offered their advice. Was deciding between time only model and striking time.

Just picked this up. Loving it.
Sorry for lousy iphoto

Very happy for you, my friend. You are on fire!

While the time display is the most clear and legible of all my timepieces, I realized I still cant read it without my glasses…. May need to send my eyes in for a full service smile

LOL! Yes, like most of us. ;)

No bad choices here. The Zeitwerk is a legend. Wore my Striking Time in Geneva over W&W and got more interest in it from many of the brands than their own new releases. Bart Grönefeld showed the movement to his daughter who happened to be at the booth at the time. And my watchmaker friend at Patek specifically asked to see this one from my collection - speaks volumes for the watch!

Wow. Nice story!

Was initially looking for a Striking Time. Chose this wonderful time only version when my favorite dealer got one, not to mention the Striking Times are quite a bit more $$$$

Congrats!

is it, with or without preload? 😉 Wear it in the best of health!

I researched movements-updates and the likes the best I could. Spoke to some Lange experts.
In the end, the sense I got was preload or not made little difference. I even heard one expert claim the Lange folks told him the earlier preload models are thought to be a bit more robust…
In the end I found a lovely example from my favorite dealer. That was probably the most important part.
It has preload, but after all of two days, I fail to see what the big deal is. Barely perceivable to my eyes.

The major pluses of the new movement are probably those of convenience, namely (1) longer power reserve and (2) addition of the hour change pushbutton.

I find the older movement to be aesthetically more attractive, and the preload never bothered me. As you observed, the preload is barely perceptible. Couldn't really go wrong with either one, and getting it from your preferred dealer is an added bonus!

Agree ...

that the preload is a really minor issue. Fwiw, you have the **the original** ZW movement!!!

Thanks. I am excited and love it

Right after getting this amazing watch, my dealer friend took in a mint Striking Time. As that is the model I was originally on the hunt for, needless to say, a quick trade happened… some photos to follow

This is an interesting turn of events!
