I only have one watch, and it's a grail that will be difficult for me to surpass...
I had been looking at watches for about 3 years and not buying any, but then I spontaneously bid on this Moritz Grossmann sight unseen in the last hours of an online auction a bit over a year ago. A perfect size for me at 36mm wide and 8mm thick. One of best looking dress watches I've ever seen with the enamel dial and sculpted violet leaf hands. Terrific movement finishing with lots of engraving, black polish, gold chatons, etc. A very elegant white gold case. It happens to be a piece unique as well! Not bad for a first acquisition, right?

I remember reading a long debate discussing if a collection could be composed of only one piece. The debate was long, the conclussion was yes, it can. Because most probably it will became a link in a long chain of pieces which be replacing to the previous mantaining the singleness of the collection.
A different and complete approach to traditional collecting where thegeneral rule is to covet several pieces.
Who knows your single beautiful piece will became the first of several more. That depends only on you.
Your post and your beautiful watch provokes many thoughts on the Magic of collecting.

A grail watch for me is a watch I love and adore for many years. A watch that appeals to all my senses.
It has to be a piece I desire heavily. So intensely that I think of it before I fall asleep and when I wake up again.
It has to represent core values like passion, craftsmanship, purity, timelessness, heart and soul.
It has the ability to lead me to unconventional actions like selling a lot of other pieces or accept a long journey (literally as well as figuratively spoken).
It has nothing to do with actual trends, high prices or any high desired brands.
It is a very personal, individual choice.
And here are my two grails I am very very lucky to own:
My beloved IWC Portugieser Minute Repeater in Platinum:
And my Moser Perpetual Purity (which is - at least for me - extremely hard to capture)
